Brooke Welty graduated from the College of the Atlantic (COA) in Bar Harbor, Maine in 2011.  She holds a BA in Human Ecology, along with the rest of the graduates of COA.  Brooke started The Kindness Project as her senior project after becoming rather disillusioned with environmental politics.  She had been an avid community organizer and activist in her hometown of Portland, Maine and at COA.  While participating in the International UN negotiations in Copenhagen, Denmark, she had the realization that this type of work was not for her; she realized that she needed to do something that required more personal interaction with others.  

The idea for The Kindness Project came from a need for re-inspiration; Brooke was in a slump after her life plans of becoming a serious environmental activist came falling down.  She had no idea that the choice to use audio as a medium for The Kindness Project would make her want to pursue a career in radio.  Brooke is currently traveling the country by bus and train, continuing to collect stories for the project.  For more on The Kindness Project trip click here.
